3rd annual Los Osos CROP Hunger Walk |
Sunday, May 18. We are one of 2,000 communities to join in hunger walks in the coming year under the banner of CROP: Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. Each of the past two years this ecumenical, interfaith event has raised significant money for relief and development work locally and throughout the world. One-fourth of the money raised goes to the Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County. In 2007, over $5,500 went to the Food Bank. Three-fourths of the money raised goes to the global humanitarian agency, Church World Service, which supports a broad range of poverty fighting projects in some 80 countries, as well as other international agencies designated by individual walkers. It takes people to plan this important community event. People are needed to help with logistics, publicity, education, finances, recruitment, registration, and business sponsorships. If you wish to help, please let Rev. Mark Richardson know of your interest, by calling 528-1649, or emailing him at padremark@sbcglobal.net. Recruitment is the key to the Walk’s success. If you will recruit others from among your family and friends, your congregation, your service club, or another community organization, please let us know. We will provide you with everything you need to effectively recruit other walkers. |
