California: Paradise or Prison State? In light of the current crisis in the California prison system, what can restorative justice teach us?


Central Coast Clergy and Laity for Justice presents an informative and interesting panel discussion open to everyone on Thursday May 27 starting at 6:30pm with networking from 6pm. It will take place at Congregation Beth David, corner of Los Osos Valley RD and Foothill Blvd. in San Luis Obispo. Panel members will be: Sister Suzanne Jabro is the Founder and Executive Director of the Center For Restorative Justice Works, a community-based organization that innovates solutions to the issues impacting women in prison and their families. She is a nationally recognized leader in the development and evolution of restorative justice ministry. She has more than 25 years’ experience in these areas. Christopher Bickel is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Cal Poly and a prison rights activist. He has worked with incarcerated youth in juvenile detention centers and youth prisons. He is currently writing a book on juvenile justice and the inequalities caused by mass incarceration. Rabbi Lon Moskowitz has served as Jewish Chaplain at California Men’s Colony for over 13 years. Prior to his move to the Central Coast, Rabbi Moskowitz served as rabbi at Congregation B’nai Israel in Sacramento, California, and as Rabbi and Hillel Director in both Boulder, Colorado and San Luis Obispo, California. Rabbi Moskowitz has for many years served on faith-based boards and commissions working to assure freedom of religious practice in institutional life.
